Rss2Anywhere QuickStart
This QuickStart requires that you understand what a RSS Feed is. ( What is RSS?, What is a RSS feed? )Tip: A Auto Updated Blog Tutorial
Tip: Rss 2 Wordpress Configuration Tutorial
Let's setup a RSS feed so that one RSS items will be posted with a daily interval to your Thumblogger blog.
Follow the steps below:
- Enable xmlrpc functions at Thumblogger
You need to enable the option 'enable w.bloggar functions' in your thumblogger account. You can do this by logging in Thumblogger > Manage section > Options tab > now enable the option 'enable w.bloggar functions' and press the 'Change' button. Ready! Without this Rss2Anywhere won't function. - Create a account
First create a Rss2Anywhere account, it's free. Click the 'Create account' link in the top menu. After you created a account you should have received a email with the password you need to login. (check your spam/junk box if you don't receive the email). Now login by clicking on the 'Login' link in the top menu. - Change your password
Now you are logged in. Let's change that difficult password first. Click on the 'Password' link in the top menu and follow the instructions. After you changed your password you will need to login again, of course with the new password. - Import your blogs
At this time you should be on the Server page. Click the Thumblogger link and enter the email address and password you use to login to thumblogger and press the Change button. Now click the 'Import/update Blogs' link to import your thumblogger blogs into Rss2Anywhere. - Did the import work?
You have now imported your blogs, let's see if they are really imported. Click the 'Blogs' link in the top menu. A new page should appear with all your blogs on it. Don't click anything yet, just look. - Add a RSS feed
Let's add a RSS feed! Click the 'RSS feeds' link in the top menu. A new page appears which shows all your RSS feeds (it is likely to be empty at this moment). Click the 'Add a new RSS feed' link to add a new RSS feed (hence the name). Enter a name for the RSS feed in the popup, let's choose webcam cause we are going to add the RSS feed of webcam.com. A new page should appear that allows you to change the properties of the RSS feed. Enter the url to the RSS feed in the 'URL to RSS feed' field, in this case:
http://blog.webcams.com/?feed=rss2
Now press the Change button. - Which information is important?
Because a RSS feed contains a lot information you will have to choose which information is the subject and the message of a log entry. Please read the little Tip on the page for help how to do this, it's quite simple. - Mark the RSS feed as OK
Now you should see the first 3 RSS items of the RSS feed in the Preview section. If that is correct then please enabled the checkbox 'Mark this RSS feed as OK' at the bottom of the page and press the Change button. - Import the RSS items of a RSS feed
Now let's import the RSS items into the system. Click the 'RSS feeds' link in the top menu and click the 'Import/Update RSS items' link. This will import all RSS items of the specified RSS feed. Don't worry you don't have to do this everytime a new item is added to the RSS feed, the system will check the RSS feed for new items every day. - Setup a blog!
Click the 'Blogs' link in the top menu and click on the blog name of the blog on which you want the RSS items to be posted. A new page appears, now specifies a Post interval and a Post count. Set Post interval to 1 (post every day) and Post count to 1 (post 1 rss item) (read the Tips on the page if you don't know what these fields are) and press the Change button. Enabled the 'Enabled Blog ' checkbox and press the Change button again. - Fill the Post Queue
Let's add some RSS items to the Post Queue. The Post Queue is a queue which contains all the RSS items which will be posted on your blog. Go to the bottom of the page and click the 'Add RSS items to Post Queue' link. A new page should appear, choose the 'webcam' feed, now all RSS items of the webcam RSS feed should appear. Click on 'Select all', this will select all the RSS items. Now go to the bottom of the page and click the 'Add selected RSS items to Post Queue', this will add the selected RSS items to the post queue of the blog (duh!). - Manipulate the Post Queue
Let's click the 'Back to blog' link, now you are back on the page on which you can change the post interval and post count thingies. As you can see this page now also contains the RSS items in the Post Queue (at the bottom of the page). If you want you can specify in which order they will be posted to your blog, just remember: the RSS item with the earliest date will be posted first. - Ready, now wait
You are ready! Now you can wait about 30 minutes and the first RSS item will be posted to your blog. Then the next day another RSS item will be posted on your blog. The next day again, until the Post Queue is empty. If the Post Queue is empty a message will be added to your log file (which can be viewed by clicking the 'Log' link in the top menu. - Play and the Auto Queue
Now go and play with it! It's a very powerfull system. A interesting tip might be the 'Auto Queue' feature which can be reached by clicking on the 'RSS feeds' link in the top menu and then the 'auto queue' link in a RSS feed row, now read the instructions and you likely will understand why this is a interesting feature. - A little tip
Did you know you can RSS items from multiple RSS feeds to the Post Queue of one blog. Crazy possibilities!
